Feeding Your Pet

Cats and dogs are, at heart and evolutionarily, carnivores. Their ancestors in the wild would consume the meat, bones and viscera of their prey, including gastrointestinal contents. The meat and bones provided protein, calcium and phosphorus, amongst other nutrients. The gut contents provided fiber – fiber that had been ingested by the herbivorous prey animal. Your pets need to be fed more like the carnivores that they are. VIVA recommends, uses and makes pet foods that make feeding your carnivore as simple and easy as possible.

For dogs, VIVA primarily recommends and sells Sojo's products, made by Sojourner Farms in Minnesota. We offer it in various sizes and in original, grain-free or complete formulas. Once it is rehydrated with the addition of your own meat (except with the complete formula which has dehydrated turkey in the ingredients) it becomes nutritionally complete. It's all homemade without any wheat or corn, ready for you to make fresh for your own dog. They love it.

When time or travel makes food preparation too difficult or impossible, we recommend Orijen, a "biologically appropriate" high protein, low carbohydrate and grain free dried dog and cat food designed by Dr. Steve Marsden, as well as Innova Evo.

For cats, we market thaw-and-serve, ready-to-eat frozen cat food. We grind fresh chicken thighs and make a complete diet, adding salmon oil, eggs, chicken livers, taurine and other vitamins. Click here for more info on raw diets.
