Morrisville Veterinarian Completes Acupuncture Certification
(December 10, 2009) Dr. Donald P. Thompson, a Northern Vermont and New York veterinarian since graduating from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984, has completed the advanced level of Veterinary Acupuncture certification and has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Dr. Thompson is the first to complete this advanced level of certification in New England and only the 14th to do so in the United States.
Dr. Thompson lectured at a Veterinary Chinese Medicine Conference in Chongqing, China in 2008, lectures annually to novice veterinary acupuncturists in their introductory level course for the Chi Institute in Florida, and is a contributing author to a new textbook of Practical Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine to be published in 2010 by the Chi Institute of TCVM.
Dr. Thompson owns the Aesculapian Veterinary Service on Route 100 South in Morrisville and tends both pet and farm animals. In addition to acupuncture therapy, AVS provides extensive Chinese Herbal Medicinal therapeutics as well as traditional Western medicine, including laser surgery.
Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine have been in use for thousands of years and the scientific basis for its effectiveness has been extensively researched for decades. Its acceptance as a viable medical therapeutic modality is in evidence as more and more insurance companies cover its use in the human world of medicine.

Local Vet Gives Acupuncture Talk in China
(October 16, 2008) Dr. Donald Thompson, a large and small animal veterinarian of Morrisville, VT, has recently returned from addressing the 10th Annual Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine Conference of the Chi Institute in Chongqing, China. Dr. Thompson has practiced veterinary medicine and surgery in northern Vermont since graduation from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1984.
The two week conference and tour addressed acupuncture and Chinese herbal medication topics for farm animals and pets alike. Dr. Thompson's contributing topic included acupuncture and herbal medicine for ruminants, including cattle, sheep and goats, and for South American camelids, including llamas and alpacas.
Traditional Chinese medicine has become an integral part of Dr. Thompson's practice since 1990. The practice philosophy is one of integrating and complementing Western medicine with Easter, rather than the preference of one to the exclusion of another, so-called "alternative" medicine.
