The veterinarian-owner of Vermont Integrative Veterinary Associates is Donald P. Thompson, DVM, FAAVA, originally from the St. Lawrence River Valley in Northern New York. He and his nine siblings grew up on a Holstein-Friesian dairy farm owned by his parents near Ogdensburg. Dr. Thompson has practiced in Vermont since graduation from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1984, serving the needs of both pets and farm animals. In the autumn of 2009 he completed the advanced level of Veterinary Acupuncture certification and has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Dr. Thompson is the first to complete this advanced level of certification in New England and only the 13th to do so in the United States. His skilled approach to acupuncture and the extensive use of Chinese herbal therapies have greatly enhanced services offered to our patients. Dr. Thompson travelled to China last September for a third visit and lectured at the 12th annual conference of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in Lanzhou.

Emily Bond, DVM, became an addition to our veterinary staff in March 2010. Originally from Springfield, Vermont, Emily grew up on a small hobby farm. Her interest in dairy cattle grew when she became a member of the student run dairy herd at the University of Vermont after (and while) also working in various capacities in both small and large animal clinics around Vermont. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies and received her certification in veterinary acupuncture for her large and small patients from the Chi Institute of Traditional Veterinary Medicine in 2011
